Motherhood is a Dirty Job But I’m Happy to do It

by Eve on January 9, 2012

This week’s Monday Listicle is about jobs. In thinking about all the jobs I’ve had in my life, the most challenging (and most rewarding) has hands down been motherhood. It’s challenging, dirty, exhausting and amazing.

5 Gross Things I’ve Done Since Taking This Job as Mama

1.) Had to wash my mouth out at 2:30 a.m. because a tiny 3-month-old projectile-vommitted into my mouth. Ah, the joys of learning on the job.

2.) Gone into the office with spit up on my blouse. And poop on my skirt.
Thankfully, my co-workers either didn’t pay attention or were too nice to tell me I literally looked like crap.

3.) Been peed on, pooped on and covered in pureed peas. All in the same day.
Second shower anyone?

4.) Chased a toddler around the house after he removed his pamper and smeared poop all over himself and the hardw0od floor.

5.) Walked around Target with snot in my hair.
He sneezed while on my lap, and I didn’t notice he sneezed in my hair.  Thank God my Target has a Starbucks in it.

5 Awesome Things I’ve Done Since Taking This Job as Mama

1.) Realized that there’s no better feeling than baby snuggles and baby kisses.

2.) Laughed so hard, I cried.

3.) Cried so hard, I laughed.

4.) Heard a tiny voice say, “lub you.”

5.) Fallen in love. Again.

Isn’t amazing how we laugh at the gross, nasty, and not so fun parts and always have more happy sigh kinda thoughts, even if they began with the gross thing first?

Ah – no. 5 made me laugh out loud.
And as for no. 1 – I’m there now, today. Wish I had bought the Wellies I’m wading around in so much vomit here!

I feel your pain and hope you get a nice warm bath after dealing with all that vomit!

I think I’ve experienced some variation of your gross list, too. Good thing those kiddos are so cute, huh?

#4 – just two weeks ago. only mine danced to Dora songs through hers.
I feel your pain.

But she did give me a big hug after I cleaned my floors – 3x – and bathed her. and “sowry mama — poop yuck gross.” At just over 2 years: Her longest string of words ever.

It’s definitely the cute stuff that makes the gross stuff tolerable.

Oh, so adorable!!

The grossest thing was when my little one was only a few weeks old and we were sitting up in the middle of the night in our favorite recliner. I think I’d just nursed him, when suddenly he spit up all over me — down my tank top and my nursing bra. I mean, I don’t know how so much liquid could be in such a little person.

I know right? I’m always amazed at how much yuckiness can come out of my tiny little man. Crazy.

So gross! Sadly, I think I have had most of those same experiences. Motherhood is awfully messy, but so rewarding too!

I feel in love again too. How about getting the “chocolate hand” after a diaper change? Nothing better!

I’ve heard pureed peas are the new black. Your little one was just trying to make you stylish.

That photo of you two is beautiful! Love how you did this list. Last five outweigh the first five anytime. And that is a good thing cause the first five are not fun :)

And that’s only what I could remember. Seriously, this child has pooped, vomited and peed on me more times than I can even count. It’s a good thing he’s so damn cute. Seriously!

You know, there was a time in my life when I was convinced that I would always reek of spitup.

Now, I barely ever remember those days . . . but I certainly remember the early snuggles.

Parenthood is so worth it . . . although I’m pretty sure the ball of snot that I found under my right ear lobe this morning wasn’t mine.

I remember when I never thought I’d sleep again. I remember staying up practically 24 hours. Hubby would ask me “will it be like this forever?” And I’d laugh and then we’d both laugh. We knew it wasn’t going to be forever, but it sure as hell felt like it.

And yeah, it’s SO freaking worth it. Snot balls and all…

Yep, motherhood is a dirty job. My grossest post was on how my gal pooped on me while co-bathing during her infancy. That still makes me cringe…ugh…

Oh poop in the bathtub is a tough one to take. That only happened to my boy once, and thankfully I wasn’t in there with him. I seriously feel for you!

You’re not the first person to ask about the plugins, so I thought I’d make it a whole post on protecting content. Stay tuned, I’ll have a post up this week!

I’ve had a few people email me asking about the plugins. I’m actually writing a post on protecting blog content and I’ll share it this week. Stay tuned!
