Moving is Exciting and Oh So Exhausting

by Eve on May 3, 2012

I’m sure you’ve all seen by now (on one social network or another) my announcement that we’re moving. Yay! This move has been 2 years in the making and I cannot tell you how thrilled we are that we’re finally moving.

We’ll finally be able to give Handsome the yard he so desperately needs.

We’ll finally be in a financial position to start saving some money for future goals/dreams/family vacations.

We’ll finally have a plethora of people to help support us and be there for us when we need a sitter at the drop of a hat.

Can you believe it? I damn near can’t.

However, with all the excitement and happiness we’re feeling about moving, we’re also anxious and exhausted. Or at least I am. I’m not sure Hubby is as much. He seems so joyous, I wonder if he’s as stressed as I am at times.

The Unknown is Scary

Don’t get me wrong, I’m thrilled with the new possibilities and the idea of being closer to my family, but I’m also stressed.

With new adventure comes the unknown.

It’s not 100% certain we’ll get the house we’re both in love with. (It could potentially be rented by the time I get out there next week to secure our housing.)

It’s nerve-racking to think about essentially starting over. New town, new home, new friends? Woah.

And then there’s the packing and the actual moving. Don’t even get me started on the energy it takes to pack up a 3 bedroom house and sort through five years of attic clutter. Let’s just say Mama hasn’t had much sleep.

And let’s not forget the 3,000 mile road trip we’ll be taking in a few weeks from Boston to Seattle. I can’t even fathom what that’ll be like with a 2-year-old. Exciting? Yeah. Let’s go with that.

So, have you moved long distance like this before? Do you have any tips you can share with me for how to cope with all this new stress? Maybe you have some advice for how to handle a rambunctious little dude for 4 days on a road trip?

If you have nothing to share, then please I beg you… send chocolate and wine ASAP. I also wouldn’t turn down a margarita if you have one. I’m just saying.

Hugs,

It’s an exciting thing . . . I, personally, hate moving . . . I think my realtor, in the house that I live in now, hated me, because I was so very picky. I wanted to make sure that, considering that life events wouldn’t force me to move, that I wouldn’t ever have to move again. And, I think I have that house.

I’m hoping for a stressless and uneventful time . . . I love love love a good road trip — but with a toddler? Damn, yeah, that’s going to have its highs & lows. That said, I can’t wait to hear the details about the trip, itself.

I hate moving too, but it’s a necessary evil for us. And it won’t be our last move either. We’ll be moving again in a year or two hopefully into our “forever” house. Yeah, I’m picky too, so I feel you on that.

I’m trying to mentally prepare myself for both the highs and the lows. Hopefully there won’t be too many meltdowns. (From both me and the toddler. Duh.) Don’t worry, I fully intend on blogging from the hotels along the way. They’ll probably be brief, grammatically incorrect, and filled with bad iPhone photos, but you’ll get the idea!

It’s definitely exciting and I’m so happy for you! I don’t have advice on a long distance move, so I’ll send chocolate instead. And wine. Deal?

The only good thing about moving is that you get a super clean and organized house! Other than that it’s a lot of hard work!

You can make the road trip across the country fun though if you can make stops at all the unique places along the way! Do the while tourist thing!

I’m so excited that you will be on the West Coast closer to me! I’m sure we will partake in many margaritas (or other drinks) in Vegas!
